The Castle and Pyrenean Museum is perhaps the most prestigious edifice of this kind in Lourdes, given the fact this landmark is the closest thing to the idea of historic symbol of Lourdes. The castle dates back to Roman times, thought it has entered the history of the place only as from Charlemagne, in the late 8th century. Nowadays, it is declared a historic monument. The Pyrenean Museum is also worth visiting by force of its impressive collection of items of traditional regional art.
